RALEIGH

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday made public the name of a motorist who was shot early Wednesday evening while driving in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40, near the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Terry Lorenzo Yellock of Greensboro was taken to a local hospital where he was released after being treated for injuries not considered life threatening, said Capt. James Stevens, a sheriff’s spokesman.

Two passengers in Yellock’s car, Leon Wood and Kirk Douglas Wright, both of Roxboro, were not injured by the gunfire, Stevens said.

Investigators do not think the shooting was a random act, Stevens said Thursday.

Deputies were called about the shooting on I-40 near Airport Boulevard at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Stevens said.

Investigators are searching for a gray or light-colored sport utility vehicle in connection with the incident, which snarled early evening commuter traffic on the interstate.

Sheriff’s deputies ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Waker County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6911.
