A young woman from Angier who was badly injured in a car accident in southern Wake County in September has died of her injuries.
Alexis McLeod, 19, was pulled from her submerged Pontiac Grand Prix after she drove off Maude Stewart Road southeast of Fuquay-Varina and landed in a small pond on the morning of Sept. 5, 2017. Authorities described her injuries as life-threatening at the time, but she hung on until Friday, Jan. 26.
McLeod was on her way to Wake Technical Community College, where she studied sonography, when her car left the road, went over an embankment and landed upside down in the pond, according to a gofundme page created to raise money for medical expenses. It was 10 minutes before first responders arrived and were able to pull her out of the submerged car.
Her funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the chapel at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis St. in Fuquay-Varina, according to McLeod’s obituary. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens off N.C. 55 in Fuquay-Varina.
