More than 70,000 gallons of wastewater spilled Friday afternoon near Interstate 40 and Harrison Avenue.
Crews found the spill at a pump station about 2 p.m., according to a news release from the town . Mechanical failure is thought to be the cause of the spill.
The pump station is back in full operation and wastewater has been cleaned up. The spill did not affect Reedy Creek downstream, Jamie Revels, the town’s utilities director, stated in the release.
The state Division of Water Resources will review the spill, as required by state law.
