Police have identified a man found dead in a wetland off South Saunders Street last Sunday as a 62-year-old homeless man named Aaron Marin Zugaide.
Police had said that they found no sign of foul play in Zugaide’s death, but they said they could not identify him publicly until Thursday evening.
Zugaide was a regular the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen in downtown Raleigh, where he helped volunteers and staff clean up after the mid-day meals. They shared news of his death and remembered him fondly before the soup kitchen opened its doors Friday.
Zugaide’s body was found off the 1800 block of South Saunders.
