We now know what Today show weatherman Al Roker thinks about the controversial Oakwood modernist house.
The NBC morning show aired a segment on the controversy Thursday morning. A reporter for the show was in Raleigh this week chatting with homeowners Louis Cherry and Marsha Gordon, as well as a dozen or so opponents of the home who gathered on a historic front porch.
But after the report aired, Roker surprised his co-hosts by weighing in on the debate. “They got their plans approved by the city,” he said. “They got permits. Come on!”
The comment prompted the other anchors to joke that their weatherman had a city zoning hobby.

The Today show feature is the latest bit of national attention for the Oakwood house controversy, which now heads to court and might not be resolved for months. Earlier this week, a Pulitzer prize-winning architecture critic penned a Vanity Fair article on the topic. And even Britain’s Daily Mail has a story summarizing the controversy.
