Police have charged a 22-year-old homeless man with trying to steal $1,000 worth of copper from a building that is being renovated to become the new police headquarters.
Kevin James Rickard was charged with attempted felony larceny. He gave arresting officers an address of 2000 Kelly Glen Drive in Apex but who was booked as having no permanent address.
Records showed that police arrested Rickard about 9 a.m. after briefly chasing him from the construction site, which is next to the county’s Southeast Regional Library on Seventh Avenue and down the street from the current police station.
Rickard also has misdemeanor charges of marijuana drug paraphernalia possession pending in Wake County. He was being held on $15,000 bail on the copper-theft accusation.
