Man charged with setting fire that killed dog in Raleigh

Police have charged a 51-year-old man with setting a fire at a Beverly Drive home that killed a dog Friday night while his sister and her two daughters were away.

Oscar Lee Spearman, who lived in the house at 808 Beverly Drive with Keisha Spearman and the girls, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Friday three blocks from the fire scene, records showed.

Keisha Spearman’s chihuahua died in the fire.

Police charged Spearman with second-degree arson and cruelty to animals, and he was held in lieu of $75,000 bail and scheduled for a first court appearance Monday.
