Knightdale police want to identify this man in connection with a holdup at a Smoker Friendly store on Tuesday.

Police are asking the public's help in finding a man who they say appears to have gone from asking for small change to robbing a convenience store by using what said was a handgun concealed in a paper bag.

The town distributed a photo on Wednesday that shows the man they want to find in connection with a robbery at the Smoker Friendly store at 7137 Knightdale Blvd. late Tuesday afternoon.

The photo is from a camera at a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts store where the man apparently asked for a paper bag that he later told a Smoker Friendly clerk held a gun.

The clerk turned over cash, and the man ran away, witnesses told police.

Police said the man is known to beg for change outside the Dunkin’ Donuts, a Food Lion and a Walmart in the area.

The man is 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall and appears to weigh between 200 and 225 pounds and was wearing a black T-shirt and black pants when last seen.

Anyone who has information that might help police was asked to call Sgt. Don Ayscue at 919-217-2264.
