Chapel Hill police renew call for help in finding hit-run vehicle

Chapel Hill police Thursday renewed their call for help from the public in finding a vehicle that critically injured a Durham man in a hit-and-run accident on U.S. 15-501 early Monday.

Joseph Russo, 23, of Durham was on foot near the intersection of 15-501, also called Fordham Boulevard, at East Lakeview Drive when he was hit.

Russo remained in critical but stable condition Thursday at Duke University Hospital in Durham, police reported.

Police found some evidence at the crash scene that may help them narrow their search, but they asked anyone who noticed a vehicle stopped in that area Sunday night or Monday morning to call the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.

Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous, and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000 for information that leads to arrest.

It’s also possible to leave tips on the Crime Stoppers website.
