Wake County sheriff's deputies charged a Fuquay-Varina man over the weekend with intentional child abuse after his 3½-month-old daughter suffered bleeding in two places in her brain.
Tacorreo Meshawn Johnson, 21, who lives at 3220 N. Main St. outside the town limits, was arrested Saturday morning and was being held Monday in lieu of $500,000 bail.
In an arrest warrant, deputies charged Johnson with one count of intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury and said it happened Friday.
The warrant did not disclose how the girl was hurt or how the case came to deputies’ attention.
Johnson was arrested when he went voluntarily to the sheriff’s office at 330 S. Salisbury St. in Raleigh on Saturday morning, officials said.
The infant’s injuries were subdural hematomas on both sides of the front of the brain, the warrant charged.
The National Institutes of Health explains on its Medline Plus website that “a subdural hematoma is a collection of blood on the surface of the brain.”
The buildup of blood from a hematoma puts pressure on the brain tissue, the government said.
Johnson was scheduled to appear in court Monday.
