The State Bureau of Investigation will lead the investigation of Wednesday's shooting by a Raleigh police officer that sent a man to the hospital.

Officer S.C. Nziuki has been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure when an officer shoots someone in the line of duty.

Nziuki was responding to a call about an assault at a private social services agency on Barrett Drive when she encountered Marcel Leroy Jordan, 33.

Nziuki shot Jordan in the chest. He was conscious and breathing when EMS arrived and was taken to WakeMed Raleigh, where he remained on Thursday.

In addition to the SBI, the internal affairs unit of the Raleigh Police Department also will investigate the shooting. The department will provide a report on the shooting to the city manager within five business days.
