Goldsboro man charged with Raleigh bank robbery

Police charged a man with robbery Tuesday after a state trooper discovered him while helping search the area around Crabtree Valley Mall after a holdup at a BB&T bank branch on Creedmoor Road.

Raymond Alan Griffin, 33, of 218 Banks Court in Goldsboro was in a car that Master Trooper Chris Pate found behind a Glenwood Avenue office building not far from the the bank, the State Highway Patrol said.

Griffin resembled a description of the robber that Raleigh police had broadcast to law enforcement officers in the area, and Pate stopped the car to investigate, troopers said.

Pate found money from the robbery and other items related to it, the highway patrol said, and took into custody and turned him over to Raleigh officers. They did not disclose what the other items were.

Griffin was being held in lieu of $52,000 bail, charged with one count of common-law robbery and having skipped court dates on two motor vehicle violations.

He was scheduled to appear before a judge Friday.
