Man charged with assaulting female Raleigh police officer

A Raleigh man was arrested late Friday night after striking a police officer and attempting to rob her of her own firearm at a downtown Raleigh bar, arrest warrants show.

Records show Jason Edward Froeber, 24, of 3909 Headwater Court, Raleigh, was taken into custody at 11:45 p.m. and charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer with a firearm and with attempted common law robbery, both felonies.

An arrest warrant charges Froeber forcibly tried to take a Smith & Wesson handgun from Raleigh Police officer D.L. Montemurro. The warrant states Froeber assaulted Montemurro with a firearm "by striking her, attempting to take the firearm with the intent to shoot her," while she was working in a law enforcement capacity at The Raleigh Times Bar on East Hargett Street.

Police added charges of injury to personal property and disorderly conduct against Froeber on Saturday, records show.

Froeber was being held at the Wake County jail under a combined $91,500 secured bond. His next court date is set for Tuesday morning.
