Police have arrested a teenager who is accused of shooting his mother’s boyfriend in Clayton on Dec. 28.
Police in Fayetteville found 17-year-old Cortaz Quemel Lucas Jr. hiding on the floor of a car they stopped early Wednesday.
Clayton police said their investigation into the killing of Robert Lee Horton, 28, led them to Lucas and to information that he might be in the Fayetteville area. Lucas has been charged with first-degree murder as well as trespassing and assault inflicting serious injury related to an incident last summer.
Horton was found shot in his home in the Alta Mobile Home Park, off Lombard Street, about 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 28, police said. Medics took him to WakeMed Raleigh hospital, where he died, police said.

The investigation turned up possible gang ties for Lucas, police said Wednesday, but they said Horton’s shooting was the result of a domestic dispute.
Clayton detectives had put out alerts to the FBI and to police in New York City and Philadelphia, believing Lucas might have gone to see people he knows there. Information turned up by the FBI and Clayton and Fayetteville police led to his arrest, town spokeswoman Stacy Beard said.
Lucas was being held without bail, which is required in murder cases.
