Man shoots 2 parents with pellet gun near school

Police said a man leaned out of a car window in front of an elementary school this morning and fired a pellet gun, hitting two parents.

The parents were not seriously injured, Garner police Lt. Chris Hagwood said this afternoon.

"The pellets hit the skin but they didn't penetrate," Hagwood said. "It caused some pain, I'm sure."

The incident occurred about 9:25 a.m. near the entrance of Vandora Springs Elementary School at 1300 Vandora Springs Road, Hagwood said.

The police spokesman said two men in a red, two-door compact car were traveling past the school when the man on the passenger side of the vehicle leaned out of the window and fired four shots from a pellet gun.

Two of the pellets struck a couple of parents who were dropping their children off to school.

"One parent was hit in the back of the neck," Hagwood said. "Another parent felt something hit their foot."

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident to call the Garner Police Department at (919) 772-8810.
