The word blog is a contraction of Web log. These Internet sites enable users to publish short comments and ideas instantly for other people to read, generally in a reverse chronological order with the newest entries at the top.
Their form varies, but generally bloggers update these diaristic journals frequently. Blogs include everything from intimate moments to political screeds. Some are meant as the equivalent of family newsletters, some as broadsides.
Some sites enable blogs to link to one another, creating a virtual epistolary community.
Anyone with access to the Web can create a blog through a number of sites, including typepad.com, blogit.com, blogspot.com and many others.
