A man who was shot on a street off Sunnybrook Road early Friday morning has died, and police have charged the alleged shooter with murder.
Anthony Darius Neal, 25, has been in custody at the Wake County jail since Saturday afternoon when investigators charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The charges were upgraded to murder after Travis Malloy, 23, died at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, police announced Monday.
Police say Neal shot Malloy while Malloy was sitting inside of a minivan in the 3400 block of Middle Branch Road at about 8:15 a.m. Friday.
Police found Malloy shot in the head. A second person inside minivan, Kedrick Daquane Thomas, 24, was not struck by gunfire, police said.
Neal celebrated his 25th birthday on Sept. 19, four days before the shooting, state records show.
