Police say a man shot and killed another he saw assaulting his neighbor.
The woman who was assaulted suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken WakeMed for surgery. She was in stable condition as of Sunday.
Police say Kellie Jacobs Harris, 26, and Randolph Davidson, 32, were involved in an altercation prior to the shooting. Capt. Joe Binns, a police spokesman, said the incident started inside Harris’ apartment and spilled out into the parking lot.
A neighbor, Kyle Jensen, heard the two screaming and yelling. When he walked outside, he saw Davidson assaulting Harris.
He then shot Davidson multiple times.
Davidson was transported to WakeMed where he died of the gunshot wounds.
Police believe Davidson and Harris were in a personal relationship.
Officers say they responded to a call at the apartment building, Green Brier Apartments, in the 1800 block of Spring Drive just before 7 a.m.
Tina Grabus, senior vice president for Tar Heel Companies, who manages Green Brier Apartments, said the apartment complex is a quiet one.
“We have been involved on this property since 2000, 16 years. And in 16 years we have never had anything like this happen,” Grabus said.
“We are certainly praying for the victim and her family and we hope she makes a recovery.”
Grabus said she wasn’t sure exactly how long Harris had been living at the apartment complex but it had been some time. Green Brier Apartments is across the street from Garner Magnet High School’s campus.
“You don’t expect this to happen here,” she said.
Jensen was not injured.
No charges have been filed against Jensen and he is not in police custody.
