Durham police are asking the public to help investigators find three men whom they have charged in a series of robberies that happened in a mile-long stretch of Chapel Hill Road last month.
Jamel Tyree Lunsford, 19, and Russell Wright Jr., 21, both face armed robbery and assault charges in a 10:30 p.m. holdup of a man and woman in a parking lot on Oct. 19. The two are charged with assault by pointing a gun, and Wright is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
The man was hit in the face with a gun before the thieves left, police said. It happened in the 2800 block of Chapel Hill Road, a police statement said.
Lunsford alone is wanted for a robbery at the Golden Pizza restaurant at 2300 Chapel Hill Road. Police said they believe he was one of three men with guns who took the business’s cash register on the night of Oct. 24.
Wright alone is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and a gun on the same date that the couple was held up.
In addition, police have charged Elijah Rakwon Swain, 19 with armed robbery and assault by pointing a gun in a second case on Oct. 24.
In that incident, police said, Swain and a second, unidentified man accosted a man who was getting out of a truck in an apartment-complex parking lot in the street’s 2900 block. The robbers took phones and wedding ring. The man’s 13-year-old son was scratched during the incident, police said.
They asked that anyone who can help police locate the men they have charged call Investigator B. Crabtree at 919-560-4583, ext. 29356, or CrimeStoppers at 919- 683-1200.
CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
