An 18-year-old man found dead in a car Sunday afternoon had been there since the night before, but residents of nearby apartments did not investigate until Sunday when they found a bullet hole in the man’s head and blood inside the car, a recording of a 911 call revealed Wednesday.
“There’s a hole behind his ear, and there’s blood all down the seat,” a woman told a 911 operator.
Police released a recording of the call that led officers to find Brandon Khalil Sandy in the car on Edwin Drive, off Rock Quarry Road.
People saw the car from the windows of their South Ridge Apartments sometime Saturday, but stayed away until Sunday because they feared the man inside might have been “messed up on drugs” and dangerous, the caller said.
The woman said that when the man was still in the car Sunday, some people went over to investigate and banged on the window. The man did not move.
Sandy was in what the caller described as an off-white Lincoln Town Car.
The apartments are on Proctor Street, the woman explained. Edwin Drive backs up to the buildings, and residents could see the car. The scene is a short drive from the police department’s Southeast District station.
On Saturday, the caller said, it appeared that “the guy was just sitting there.”
Police have not said if they have any leads in the case. It is considered a homicide, they said.
Sandy and another man had been arrested in January on a felony assault charge after a man and woman were shot on Hensley Drive.
A statement Wednesday said that detectives are still hoping to get information from the public that can help them.
