Detectives have charged a 23-year-old man with the shooting death of an acquaintance late last year.
Investigators on Wednesday charged Kalid Gillard of Durham with murder in connection with the shooting of Holly Martez Lyons in South Durham on Dec. 10, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.
Officers responded to a report of gunshots near the intersection of Concord and Cecil streets just before 12:30 a.m. and found Lyons inside a silver Nissan sport utility vehicle. Emergency workers pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police have not said what led to the shooting, but say it does not appear to be random. Lyons and Gillard knew each other.

Investigators served Gillard with the murder warrant at the Durham County Jail. He has been in custody on drug and weapons charges since February 12 after police raided an apartment in the 500 block of Liberty Street, Michael said.
Police recovered a stolen gun and cocaine during the raid and filed multiple felony charges against Gillard, including manufacturing cocaine and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, she said.
