Police seldom accept coincidences in criminal matters, but an apparent one Friday morning made it appear they had captured suspects in one crime when the pair apparently was involved in a different one.
Less than an hour after two men reportedly smashed a rental truck into a Wake County ABC store in what appeared to be a break-in, officers spotted a truck pulling into a U-Haul dealership on Capital Boulevard and stopped it.
Two men who were in the truck ran, but police caught them, spokesman Jim Sughrue said.
In the truck, however, were stolen batteries, not liquor, and police said the pair appeared to be unrelated to the ABC store, Sughrue said.

The break-in happened about 5 a.m. at the store at 2649 Appliance Court, off Capital Boulevard just north of the Interstate 440 Beltline, police said.
After the two men were taken to detective headquarters for questioning, investigators concluded they were not connected to the break-in, Sughrue said.
Police had not disclosed where and when they believed the batteries were stolen.
