Durham police search for jewelry store robber

Police are searching for a gunman who robbed a jewelry store this week in South Durham.

No injuries were reported.

The armed robbery happened on Wednesday around 1:15 p.m. at Gold Assay at 7001 Fayetteville Road, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

Witnesses said a man walked into the shop, approached the counter and told an employee he had jewelry he wanted to sell. When the employee looked up, the man pointed a gun at him and demanded jewelry, Michael reported.

The bandit took several pieces of jewelry and fled in a red car, possibly a Kia Soul, driven by a second person.

Police said the man was last seen wearing a gray zip-up hoodie, blue jeans and a T-shirt.
