Police found 26 pounds of marijuana in a Walnut Creek Parkway apartment before arresting the man who lives there, according to a search warrant for the residence.
Narcotics detectives returned the search warrant to the Wake County court clerk’s office Tuesday, a little more than a month after they arrested Tyler Dillard Payton in his apartment at 3200 Walnut Creek Parkway.
Police went to Payton’s apartment in the early hours of June 22. In several bags, they said in the warrant’s inventory of seized items, was a total of 11,897 grams of marijuana. That is equivalent to 26.2 pounds.
Police said they also found a .410-gauge shotgun in the apartment.
Payton was charged with trafficking in marijuana and maintaining a place to keep and sell drugs.
In asking for the search warrant, detectives said a tip had brought Payton to their attention, and they had conducted surveillance on his apartment and saw activity that they believed indicated drug sales were going on.
Payton has been released on bail since his arrest.
