It appears from arrest warrants obtained by police that Taheem Ivory Lassiter's shooting death Tuesday night on Pebble Beach Drive resulted from a drug robbery.
The man charged with murder in Lassiter’s death – Cresyan Tyrek Scurlock, 18 – was arrested Wednesday and also was charged with robbing Lassiter of $160 worth of marijuana and conspiring with two other men to do it.
Two hours before police arrested Scurlock at his home on Dolle Court, detectives charged Eric Lamont Dillard, 19, of Rose Lane with robbing Lassiter of the marijuana and conspiring with Scurlock and the third man.
Scurlock was arrested about 11 a.m. at his home, according to records.
Lassiter died at WakeMed Hospital, where he was rushed after police found him shot in the 4900 block of Pebble Beach Drive, the same block where he lived.
“I need an ambulance,” a woman told a 911 dispatcher at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. “Two people are shooting. Please hurry up. There are people getting shot out here.”
The 911 caller, whose name was not made public, told the dispatcher that she heard at least two shots. She said she did not see the shooting, but heard a car speed away before it returned to the apartment complex and more gunshots rang out.
“Somebody is screaming, ‘Oh my God,’” the 911 caller said.
Reports of gunfire are not uncommon at the apartment complex where the shooting happened. Lassiter was found by a group of mailboxes there.
Another person was shot in the 4900 block in January 2016, but survived. Two people were charged in that case.
