Man tried to sexually assault 16-year-old near North Raleigh middle school, police say

Police are searching for a stocky man with a mole on his face who they say tried to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl near a North Raleigh middle school on Thursday morning.

Investigators say the crime happened before dawn in a tree line area near Wakefield Middle School at 2300 Wakefield Pines Drive, according to a news release from the Raleigh Police Department.

It was about 6:20 a.m. when the man chased the teenager, tackled and overpowered her, and attempted to sexually assault her, the release said.

The attacker was last seen fleeing on foot after the attempted assault, police reported.

Investigators described the man as heavy-set and in his 30s. He has a mole on the right side of his face and was last seen wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and black and white sneakers, according to the news release.
