Toddler was reportedly abducted from day care. But she wasn’t. Mom picked her up.

HOLLY SPRINGS For a few nervous minutes Friday morning, Wake County sheriff’s deputies Friday investigated after a report that a 4-year-old girl had been abducted from a day care center in Holly Springs.

But it wasn’t an abduction.

The child’s mother had picked her up.

At about 9:15 a.m. Friday, someone at The New School Montessori Center at 5617 Sunset Lake Road in Holly Springs called 911 and reported that a child had been abducted from the preschool parking lot, said John Dee Jones, a Wake County sheriff’s spokesman.

Sheriff’s deputies later determined that the girl had been take by her mother and that no criminal violation had occurred.

State troopers found the girl and her mother on Interstate 95 near Emporia, Va.

No charges were filed, Jones reported.

Jones said the parents are separated and currently trying to work out a custody arrangement.

The child was held by authorities her father could pick her up, Jones reported Friday afternoon.
