Police say a disgruntled auto repair customer used Craigslist to rob and assault the mechanic who worked on his car.
Witnesses told police that Rucan Huang of Cary wielded a golf club to beat and rob the mechanic early Thursday afternoon.
Investigators charged Huang, 52, with assault with a deadly weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon, Durham police reported. Huang remained in the Durham County jail Thursday afternoon under a $250,000 bail, officials reported.
Officers were alerted about a robbery and assault just before 2 p.m. at 523 Davis Drive in Keystone Tech Park, an office and research building, said Durham police spokesman Wil Glenn. When police arrived, witnesses told them Huang had beaten the mechanic with a golf club and took his car keys.
Investigators described Huang as a Craigslist customer who was “not satisfied with the auto service repairs rendered by the victim.” They reported that Huang “took matters into his own hands and lured the victim to the location using Craigslist,” according to a Durham police press release.
The assault and robbery were witnessed by “numerous employees at the location as well as recorded on video,” according to the release.
The mechanic, who filed a complaint with Cary police, suffered cuts and bruises that were treated by EMS workers, police said.
