Four men in their late teens were arrested at an apartment complex early Sunday evening on charges stemming from what police was said was the armed theft of a backpack from a 15-year-old boy who was walking at a nearby elementary school.

Police charged Ryan Russell Garrett, 19, of Cannondale Drive in Chapel Hill and Ulises Dimitri Santos, 19, of Milburn Landing Circle in Garner with robbery with a dangerous weapon. They were accused of having a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun.

Santos was also charged with having a gun on educational property, the Alston Ridge Elementary School on Green Level Church Road.

Elijah Jaloni Sutton, 18, of Huntscroft Lane in Raleigh and Adrian Emmanuel Ousley, 18, of Edinborough Drive in Durham were charged with aiding and abetting the robbery.

The youth told police that his backpack had only homework in it at the time, according to the charges.

Police valued the pack at about $50, and Capt. Randall Rhyne said Monday that they had not figured out why robbers would want it or why the four men were in the area.

Police said they were called about the theft at 6:08 p.m.

County arrest records show that the four were taken into custody about 10 minutes later on Pickett Branch Road at the Bexley at Triangle Park apartments. The complex is across Green Level Church Road from the school.

Garrett and Santos were held on $125,000 bail each. Ousley and Sutton were held on $100,000 bail each.
