In an unusual twist, Wake County sheriff's investigators are asking the public to help them find someone who they think may have been injured rather than someone who committed a crime.
The request Friday says a man seen in a fuzzy security-camera photo may have been hurt in “an incident” in the same area that deputies responded to Sunday night when a man said he had fired a shotgun at a suspected intruder.
The sheriff’s office declined to confirm or deny that the man in the photo may have been shot. A statement said he “may have injuries to his face and/or upper body” and was hurt Sunday.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. James Stevens said the incident happened in the Bashford Road area.
The call Sunday was on Redwood Drive, which runs off Bashford Road in an area east of Interstate 40, northeast of Cary and west of Raleigh.
In that incident, the sheriff’s office had said, a man told deputies that he had seen what he thought was an adult man trying to get into an out-building on his property about 10:30 p.m.
The man said he fired a shotgun toward the apparent intruder, but deputies who searched the area Sunday night and during the day Monday could not find anyone.
The man, whom the sheriff’s office described as Hispanic, is wearing a short-sleeved shirt and light-colored pants in the photo.
Stevens asked that anyone who might be able to help officials find the man call Investigators D. Weaver or A. Drayton at 919-856-6911.
