Man slain in Durham drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon

A 34-year-old man was killed in an apparent drive-by shooting outside a house on North Duke Street late Sunday afternoon, police said.

Warren Grace, 34, died at the scene of the attack at 1102 N. Duke St., on the corner of West Markham Street three blocks from Duke University’s East Campus, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.

Shots were heard in the normally quiet neighborhood about 5:45 p.m., police said.

Grace was on the porch of the house that neighbors posting on a local talk group described as a “gray, rundown rental.”

Grace did not live at the house, police said, and investigators were trying to determine why he was there and a motive for the killing.

Police asked anyone who has information about Grace or the incident to call Investigator Q. Tait at 919-560-4440, ext. 29332, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
