A man in a wheelchair was attempting to cross a road in Durham when he was struck and killed by a car early Sunday morning.

The man, identified Monday as 57-year-old Osvaldo Valadez Roldan of Durham, was outside of the crosswalk when he was hit at about 1 a.m. by a 2010 Mazda 3 driven by a 17-year-old male who was traveling eastbound on Holloway Street, according to a Durham Police Department news release.

Valadez Roldan was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

The driver remained at the scene and no charges had been filed as of 3 p.m. Sunday, according to a Durham police spokesperson.

The crash remains under investigation and police ask anyone who has information to call investigator J.T. Rose at 919-475-4149.
