A Raleigh man was sentenced to nearly 4 years in federal prison this week for filing a false tax refund claim to the IRS.
Aki D. Stanley, 41, will also spend three years under supervised release after his 45-month prison term is done. Stanley was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Greenville.
Stanley pleaded guilty in February. Prosecutors say he prepared and filed fraudulent federal tax returns in the names of others, including homeless people in Raleigh from whom he obtained personal information. The illegal returns netted him $487,359, according to prosecutors.
