A Wake County school bus driver was arrested late Wednesday after being accused of pushing an 8-year-old boy down the steps of a bus.
Narciso Rafael DeLeon Alphonso, 55, of 5839 Spring Glen Lane in Raleigh was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault on a child under 12, according to an arrest warrant. The alleged assault occurred on Aug. 14 as Alphonso was driving students to Durant Road Elementary School in North Raleigh, according to Laura Hourigan, a Raleigh police spokeswoman.
Hourigan said the boy did not suffer serious injuries.
Alphonso was released from the Wake County jail after posting a $1,000 bond.
Alphonso has been suspended with pay since Monday, according to Lisa Luten, a Wake County schools spokeswoman. She said Alphonso has worked as a bus driver for Wake since February 2011.
