Sheriff's deputies say they are searching for a 21-year-old man in connection with a kidnapping and shooting that killed a 19-year-old woman and wounded a 17-year-old girl last month in northern Durham County.
Investigators have charged Donovan Amire Bright with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Bright is the sixth person to be charged in the case; the other five have already been arrested.
The incident left Dymond Patrice Fowler dead in a ditch off Glenn Road on Aug. 24, while her friend, Alexis Patterson, survived by playing dead and later going to a nearby home for help.
Fowler and Patterson had been kidnapped from a hotel and held for a ransom, according to the Durham County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators said Patterson had been shot in the mouth and had lost her index finger when she got the homeowner to call 911.
Based on the call, deputies found Fowler, a recent graduate of Northern High School, dead of multiple gunshot wounds in the 4700 block of Glenn Road.
Bright was still at large Tuesday afternoon. Investigators are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 919-560-0900.
