A north Raleigh homeowner was arrested Monday night for what police said was pointing a semi-automatic handgun at a crew the city had sent to repair the sidewalk in front of his Waterbury Road house.
Francis Edward Dunton Jr., 48, of 4800 Waterbury Road was charged with assault by pointing a gun. The offense is a misdemeanor whether or not a gun is loaded. he was arrested at detective headquarters.
The case began, police said in asking for a search warrant to find a gun, “during a confrontation over the repair of the city sidewalk in front of the suspect’s house. The suspect went inside his house, retrieved a black semiautomatic pistol and pointed it at the victim as he was walking away.”
Dunton, who has convictions in 1989 for assault on a female and in 1992 for resisting an officer, is scheduled to be in court Oct. 29.
