Raleigh man accused of having counterfeit crack

A Raleigh man was arrested Friday on charges of possessing fake crack and robbing a homeless man of $10.

Clarence Maurice Powell, 31, of Method Road, pointed a revolver at a man staying at a Wilmington Street shelter and took $10 from him, according to an arrest warrant.

A Raleigh police officer arrested Powell the same day and charged him with armed robbery in addition to possession of cocaine and possession of a counterfeit controlled substance. All three charges are felonies.

The counterfeiting charge stems from the allegation that Powell took some type of pills, removed their coating and markings and then broke them up into chunks, “so that it appeared to be crack rocks,” the arrest warrant states.
