State officials are withholding the identity but have issued a picture of a juvenile offender who escaped custody in downtown Raleigh on Monday afternoon and said they have "a high degree of concern" for the youth and the public.
The youth, whose age was withheld, is named Calvin R., the state Department of Public Safety said in a statement.
He escaped while at court with officials from the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice after a hearing, spokeswoman Diana Kees said.
Calvin was last seen in the area of West Cabarrus and South McDowell streets, outside the Wake County Justice Center, about 4 p.m., the statement said.

“Division officials have a high degree of concern for the safety of both the juvenile and the public, due to a prior history of unpredictable behavior,” the statement said.
Officials did not disclose what crime had led to the youth being confined at the Wake Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
They asked anyone who sees Calvin to call police.
