Police on Tuesday released the name of a woman who was shot to death at East Main and Elm streets Monday.
Latonya Denise Morris, 37, of Durham was killed by shots fired by someone in a blue Lincoln Navigator just after 1 p.m., spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
Police found Morris with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical technicians worked to save her, but she was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.
Police had not made an arrest in the case, but they said the shooting did not appear to be a random attack, indicating that they believe the shooter or shooters were targeting someone.
They asked anyone with information to call Investigator A. Cristaldi at 919-560-4440, ext. 29322, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
The shooting came a day after police found a body behind a home in the 2800 block of Ashe Street. Police said Monday that they had not identified the victim, but they say he died of a gunshot wound and that they are investigating the case as a homicide.
It was the city’s second homicide of the year.
