Four people whom police charged with heroin trafficking late last week were due in court again Monday after new conspiracy charges raised their bails to $1 million or more.
The four people arrested were:
- Matthew Lane Jr., 34, 1204 Boyer St., Raleigh
- Aretha Michelle Lyles-Awuonda, 37, 3501 Huntleigh Drive, Raleigh
- Ronald Lee Evans, 40, 1020 Spawn Place, a Knightdale address in Wake County
- Douglas Alexander Cooley, 26, 8023 McKee Drive, Raleigh
Police had arrested the quartet late Thursday and charged each with two counts of trafficking. Arrest warrants said they had more than 28 grams of heroin but did not specify how much more.
Twenty-eight grams is the threshold for the state’s most-severe trafficking felony, a Class C crime that carries a minimum sentence of 225 months in prison.
While the four were in custody on Friday, detectives swore out new warrants charging each of the four with conspiring with the other three, and magistrates raised their bails from an initial $250,000 apiece.
The new bails ranged from $1 million to $1.4 million.
