Police are asking the public to help them identify this man, who they say tried to hold up a cashier at a Harris Teeter grocery on Western Boulevard on March 3.

A man tried a holdup at a Harris Teeter grocery store in Raleigh this month before running away, and police are asking the public's help in identifying him.

The man approached a cashier at the store at 5563 Western Blvd. about 11 a.m. on March 3, police said. He implied that he had a weapon, they said, but the clerk hesitated and the man left empty-handed.

The suspect was described as a white man, probably in his 40s, with a salt-and-pepper goatee. He was wearing a dark jacket with a hood and a light, vertical stripe on each side in the front.

If you have information that could help police identify the man or know anything else about the incident, they asked that you call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at 919- 834-HELP (4357) or visit raleighcrimestoppers.org for text and email reporting options.
