Durham police officer charged with fraud

Durham police arrested one of their own officers Thursday and charged him with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

Officer D.M. Yuengling has been accused of agreeing to sublet his apartment and receiving payment from a subletter without passing that money on to the rental company.

Police say Yuengling also signed a contract to work as a courtesy officer at the apartment complex and agreed to live there at a discounted rate. Instead, police say, he allegedly sublet the apartment to another person and lived elsewhere, keeping $450 in discounted rent.

Yuengling, 24, joined the Durham Police Department in January 2014. He is now on administrative leave without pay.
