Raleigh inmate killed self, officials say

A 52-year-old inmate at N.C. Correctional Institution for Women died Sunday of an apparent suicide, state officials said.

Lori Pote was found ill in her bed at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and died soon after at a local hospital. State Capitol police are investigating the death.

Pote was serving 24 years for multiple counts of embezzlement and had been incarcerated since April 2015.

Financial forensic investigators think the crimes began Jan. 1, 2007, and ended Dec. 31, 2013.

Charged in 2014, Raleigh police detectives accused Pote of embezzling more than $100,000 each year she was employed by Carolina Kids Pediatrics Associates at 2605 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh, court records show. Financial forensic investigators think the crimes began Jan. 1, 2007, and ended Dec. 31, 2013.
