A 56-year-old man told police he wanted to go back to jail this week, so he handed a bank teller a holdup note and then sat down to wait for officers. They did not oblige.
Mark Glenn Foster walked into a SunTrust branch at 200 N. Mangum St. on Wednesday. The teller to whom he handed the note did not give him any money, but the bank did call police.
Foster was in a chair waiting for them.
His ploy was not without reason. Police said Foster used the same tactic on Jan. 22, 2015, at a PNC bank branch.

That time, police charged him with attempted larceny, and he was convicted of that just over two weeks ago in a Durham courtroom. A judge sentenced him to 12 months’ probation, however, not confinement.
Wednesday, officers opted to take Foster to Durham Access for a health evaluation instead of arresting him, and he was admitted there.
