Police said Thursday that they had charged a suspect as a juvenile in a November killing that happened when the youth was 15 years old.
Jermaine Bennett, who was 18, died at Duke University Hospital shortly after he was found shot at Building 3400 in the 1200 block of Wabash Street in the McDougald Terrace housing project about 7 p.m.
Thursday, police said the suspect was being charged with manslaughter, but through the state’s juvenile justice program. They specified that the youth was 15 when Bennett was shot on Nov. 19 and was placed in the Durham County Youth Home after being charged.
The suspect and Bennett knew one another, police said, and the shooting was not a random act.
