A Garner man was being held without bail Friday after police arrested him on charges of statutory rape, three counts of statutory sex offense and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
Detectives arrested Rupert Compton Gordon, 54, at his home at 1302 Vandora Ave. about 7 p.m. Thursday, according to Wake County records.
They also charged him with disseminating material harmful to minors, which is a misdemeanor. State law says that means material that an “average adult person applying contemporary community standards” to material or a performance would find it has “a predominant tendency to appeal to a prurient interest of minors in sex....”
The rape and sex offense charges apply when the child is 13 to 15 years old.
