Two men were charged Thursday with trafficking in the drug ecstasy from a house in Raleigh and held in lieu of bails set at more than $1 million because, a magistrate said, they have access to large amounts of cash.
One of the two, Cherron Dadrin James, 40, told authorities he is the brother of 11-season NFL running back Edgerrin James, officials said.
Cherron James and Jeremy Dantae Anderson, 35, were arrested near 6213 Remington Lake Drive, which was listed as their address in arrest records.
Both told a magistrate that they lived in Florida “but can’t remember the address,” the records stated.
In arrest warrants, police said they found 111 grams (just under 4 ounces) of the drug MDMA, also known as ecstasy, Molly and by other names.
James and Anderson both have felony convictions in Naples, Fla., and each was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. James was convicted in 2006 of felony battery of a law enforcement officer, police said. They cited Anderson’s conviction in 2012 for delivery of a controlled substance.
Police said in arrest warrants that James had a 5.57 mm semiautomatic handgun.
Anderson, the warrants charged, had two 9 mm semiautomatic handguns.
The two also were charged with maintaining a dwelling for keeping, selling and using drugs.
James’ bail was set at $1.25 million. Anderson’s bail was set at $2.25 million. Both were to have first court appearances Friday.
