A man was shot Wednesday morning at a house in the 500 block of Granite Street, off Carolina Pines Avenue in south Raleigh, and a second man was arrested shortly afterward, police said.
Police were called to the 400 block of Carolina Pines Avenue shortly before 7 a.m. in response to a report of a shooting. They found Billy Joe McNair Jr., 38, with gunshot wounds that were considered serious but not life-threatening.
Police determined that the shooting actually took place nearby inside a home at 557 Granite St.
That is the home of Markell Moran Chess, 23, who police charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a stolen .45-caliber pistol and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
An arrest warrant said police found 404 grams, about 0.9 pounds, of marijuana belonging to Chess.
He was held in lieu of $500,000 bail for a Thursday court appearance.
