U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will deliver the undergraduate commencement address at N.C. Central University next month, the university announced Tuesday.
Duncan has served as education secretary under Barack Obama since 2009. Before that, he served as head of the Chicago Public Schools system for eight years, headed a nonprofit foundation that helped fund a college education for a class of inner-city children and played professional basketball in Australia.
More than 650 undergraduate degrees will be awarded during the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9, in O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium. A separate ceremony for graduate and professional students will take place May 8.
