N.C. State University has chosen an administrator and professor at Purdue University to be its new vice chancellor for research, innovation and economic development.
Dr. Alan Rebar is senior associate vice president for research, executive director of Discovery Park and professor of clinical pathology at Purdue University. He will start the job at NCSU in September.
Rebar has overseen growth at Purdue’s research park, which is a hub for translational and interdisciplinary research, said NCSU Chancellor Randy Woodson, in his announcement of the hire Friday.
Rebar is known for his work in clinical laboratory medicine, with expertise in pathology, cytology and hematology. He is a former dean of Purdue’s veterinary college from 1996 to 2005. He has authored or co-authored 120 publications and eight textbooks and has won numerous awards for his contributions to animal medicine.
He holds doctorates in both veterinary medicine and veterinary pathology from Purdue.
